Working With You Helps Us Help Others!
Our Charity Partners
In our small community we see the difference we make with our business through the causes we support. That makes me feel good.
Working with you helps us help others. In Truckee-Tahoe the list of ways businesses can help is long so we’ve decided to condense all our efforts toward two causes that are dear to us.
We Participate in the Annual Best of Tahoe Chefs Event
HeyChef! is a proud member of Best of Tahoe Chefs (BOTC) since its beginning. In 2000 chefs Billy McCullough (Dragonfly restaurant) and Gary Bulmer (Earthly Delights Catering and current HeyChef! chef) held a small dinner party to raise funds for a mountain climbing expedition to increase cancer awareness. The Kilimanjaro expedition was a hit and the event was so well received they did it again.
Now the annual event raises funds through the volunteer work of our local community of chefs. The annual gala (with silent and live auctions) funds the oncology support services for cancer patients and their caregivers at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. Each year 40 of the area’s top chefs are invited to come together (we never get to see one another because we’re all in different kitchens around town!) and create a night of delicious fine dining, live entertainment and fun for 400 guests. The evening includes lively bidding to win private dinners and special auction packages created by chefs, and includes an opportunity to participate in a “Community Generosity” segment to make donations directly benefitting local cancer patients and their caregivers.
Cancer touches all of us. We have clients, team members, culinary colleagues and family members impacted by and lost from cancer. Gathering with the area’s best chefs to raise funds while showcasing our talent is rewarding in many ways and is one of our favorite ways to participate in our community.
Our Charity Partner is the North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services
We donate a portion of our profits to the North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services.
NTTHS operates the Emergency Warming Center, an extreme weather triggered center in Truckee which provides shelter, meals and other services to the homeless. Before Cathie Foley opened the Emergency Warming Center in 2015 at Church of the Mountains, the homeless were underserved in our community. Seeing this gap, she and others set out to assist our unhoused neighbors with food and shelter when snow, rain and cold temperatures become life threatening. Cathie and I have been friends for years and when this non-profit launched I was confident our partnership would make a bigger impact than sending HeyChef! donations to other more established, well-funded non-profits in our town. Thanks to community members like you, every year this vital, life-saving shelter grows and offers an expanding number of services to individuals in need.
Our Work Involves Our Whole Team
HeyChef! strives for 100% participation by the members of our culinary team. Our servers and chefs help by making financial contributions, donating goods and volunteering their time (when chefs are cooking for NTTHS the soup is fantastic)!
Look for the blue ‘Giver’ ribbons next to the pictures of our servers and chefs to see our involvement!
When we put food on your plate it helps HeyChef! put food on the plates of others.
One Plate at a Time, You Help Us Help Others
We believe we can make the greatest impact by participating in Best of Tahoe Chefs and partnering with North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services. But we couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for trusting us with your business and allowing us to come into your home to cook for your friends and family.
