How do I make a reservation?

A signed agreement, 50% advance payment, and a credit card on file are necessary to reserve our services.

How much notice do you need?

We strive to work within your timeframe and can provide same-day service for many of our Prix Fixe menus and a la carte staff if you contact us before 2 p.m.  Call us from the chairlift or the 13th hole! A bartender or other staff member can report to your home for après ski or post-golf cocktails.

Longer notice is required for Bespoke events.  Certain high demand days and holidays book quickly in Truckee and Lake Tahoe so it is recommended that you give as much advance notice as possible.

Will your staff travel to provide services?

We’ll, literally, travel the world to accommodate you!  Locally, we routinely service areas in and around Truckee and Lake Tahoe, such as:

Can I select a specific chef and/or can I hire away your staff on a temporary or permanent basis?

Yes. Request your favorite chef or servers by name, and we’ll do our best to reserve him/her for you again.

If you would like to hire a member of our team on a temporary or permanent basis, you may be able to do so through our "Take Me with You" program. Placement services are outlined in our Terms & Conditions, and we invite you to contact the office to discuss your unique request.

What if I need other services (eg. party rentals, flowers, music, nanny, etc.)?

We’re happy to refer you to local businesses for other services which will help make your visit to Truckee and Lake Tahoe a success.  For items such as party rentals, premier rental properties, flowers, music, nanny and housekeeping services, see our list of Preferred Providers.

Do you offer tastings?

No, it is not our practice to provide tastings since our reputation speaks for itself. Please read our Testimonials and rest assured that since 1997 our executive team has personally screened each private chef.

How can I control my costs?

By selecting the service that’s right for you.

A La Carte staff is the affordable way to reduce the stress of hosting a party for friends and family. You take care of the food; we send you the staff that gives you a third hand.

Our Prix Fixe menus are the solution to dining out when you want to stay in. Avoid the drive, the parking, the melt-down or the sitter, and cut the wait list.  We bring the restaurant to you.

Bespoke services elevate entertaining to a whole new level. We create custom menus for your special event menu or a week’s meals presented by your in-home private chef, while you enjoy full-service dining and domestic kitchen staff.  From your morning coffee to the evening’s champagne toast, we offer you one-of-kind dining experiences.

Can I provide my own (blank)?

Flexibility is one of the advantages of working with HeyChef! Our clients routinely provide their own alcohol and wine from their personal cellars.  And sometimes the day just would not be complete without grandma’s famous pecan pie.  Remember, HeyChef! is here to serve you. We do it when you want it, how you want it, and where you want it.

Please keep in mind when it comes to alcohol, we serve your guests at your direction but the responsibility of buying and regulating consumption by your guests rests with you.

What if the number of guests changes?

By nature, the best parties grow in scope and number of guests – that’s what makes them a party!  When your guest list changes, your grocery costs and need for staff may also change, but that’s okay with us. Inform us of changes to your estimated guest list as your event date approaches and advise us of your final guest count prior to the chef shopping for your menu.  If your guest list shrinks for any reason and fewer staff are required to execute your event, please review the cancelation policy in our Terms & Conditions.

Does your staff perform other household duties?

No. We specialize in kitchen tasks only, including shopping, setting the party, serving and pouring, and cleaning up after meals. Personal errands, housekeeping, and household management tasks are not our specialty. Also, we are not event planners. If you have an elaborate event, it is best for you to hire a coordinator to ensure its success. Please see our list of Preferred Providers

Why are your prices higher than a restaurant or caterer?

Lake Tahoe is a world-class destination, and during peak times the best services are in high demand and limited availability.  The price tag to reserve staff just for you, so that you may experience the luxury of tailor-made, private, in-home entertaining (Bespoke services), is not within everyone’s budget. If you desire personal services in your home but have a restricted budget, we offer A La Carte staff for-hire as well as Prix Fixe dinner menus.

Are your prices higher on holidays and peak vacation times?

Yes.  Certain holidays and high-demand dates sell out months in advance, and in order to assure we have staff available, we charge a premium for private chef and kitchen staff services.  We can secure the chef from your favorite Lake Tahoe restaurant for the 4th of July, but this comes at a premium. Lake Tahoe regulars know the dates most in demand, but we’ve listed them in our Terms & Conditions for your review.  We also reserve the right NOT to apply a surcharge if we have ample staff available!

What if weather conditions play a factor?

Occasionally, circumstances beyond our control (such as foul weather, road closures, or power outages) occur and have an effect on your event. When this happens we will do everything reasonably within our power to execute your planned service and meals. (Sometime these circumstances make the best Tahoe stories for friends back home!)  In the event of a cancelation due to circumstances beyond our control please refer to our Terms & Conditions.

What is your cancellation policy?

What if I'm unhappy with (blank)?

We’re confident you will be happy with the services we provide because the menu was created by you and is being prepared and served in your home. Additionally, the staff we contract on your behalf are professionals and have been carefully screened by our executive team. It is not our practice to review or revise your bill after an event. If for any reason you are dissatisfied, the time to tell us is during the event so we can find a solution. Clients are rarely surprised by the size of their bill. We always provide you with an estimate encompassing the range of our services.  Please keep in mind planning can be as detailed as you wish, and the total time the chef dedicates to planning and completing your event will be reflected in the bill.

What is your tipping policy?

A 20% gratuity is included on all invoices. However, your staff, who work hard planning and executing events in you home, greatly appreciate receiving an additional cash tip paide directly to them after service.

I use your staff on a repeat basis. How can I control my costs?

For homes and families we serve year after year, we offer a Service Management Profile (SMP). An SMP allows us to survey your home and document your food and service preferences, so that we can help control your costs going forward. Please call us for more info.
