When Holly said “Serving and cooking for others are sacred obligations” the power of her words hooked me. I’d seen the HeyChef! website, heard of their reputation, and I’d been looking for work with a purpose. HeyChef! was the answer.
Two weeks ago I joined HeyChef! as their new office manager, reluctantly stepping into the accomplished shoes of Keri who’s orchestrated private dinner parties for Truckee and Lake Tahoe clients (she's leaving the HeyChef! offices to return to school). We all extend Keri the best as her next chapter unfolds and mine begins.
I bring with me experience in customer service from work at Patagonia, Klean Kanteen and the Hyatt. Managing lots of accounts and running many events makes me excited because their focus is on creating memories for families. I’m confident my professionalism and integrity has found a new home with HeyChef! and their discerning clients.
When I asked Holly about what I should say in this post she had a different take on things. “Amelia and I hit it off immediately and since she's joined us we’ve increased the laughter and joy in our office. Plus, she used the word ‘plethora’ in her interview, so I knew she was a good fit for our team!”
I really wanted to find work with a purpose (running up against deadlines for an international size order of zippers just didn’t feel like the best use of my talents and passion). But it was during my interview with Holly Verbeck and Chef Grog (co-founders and owners of HeyChef! ) that their powerful words struck a chord. You see this isn't a Lake Tahoe catering company. And it isn't a Truckee restaurant. They founded a private chef company on the principle that there are three sacred obligations:
COOKING for, TEACHING and SERVING others.
Here’s how they explained it:
“Cooking is about the most intimate act one person can perform for another – they place thier life and health is in our hands. Similarly, teaching allows us to influence another for a lifetime, so we regard this responsibility with great care. And serving others (not servitude, mind you) is at the heart of love, not only for our family and friends, but within our community.”
(Holly does great work with chefs - she's super passionate about elevating their careers and the dignity of their craft. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of a company that considers its work a sacred obligation?)
I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming weeks, and to helping you plan your next in-home celebration. (P.S. Don’t wait too long, the holidays are already around the corner and we book out quickly!)
